Charles on Obama silence.
Hope and Change - But Not for Iran

Either Iranian leader has extremist roots so 'Bama is smart to say nothing and keep it all in the Islamist family.

WASHINGTON -- Millions of Iranians take to the streets to defy a theocratic dictatorship that, among its other finer qualities, is a self-declared enemy of America and the tolerance and liberties it represents. The demonstrators are fighting on their own, but they await just a word that America is on their side.
And what do they hear from the president of the United States? Silence. Then, worse. Three days in, the president makes clear his policy: continued "dialogue" with their clerical masters.
Dialogue with a regime that is breaking heads, shooting demonstrators, expelling journalists, arresting activists. Engagement with -- which inevitably confers legitimacy upon -- leaders elected in a process that begins as a sham (only four handpicked candidates permitted out of 476) and ends in overt rigging.
Then, after treating this popular revolution as an inconvenience to the real business of Obama-Khamanei negotiations, the president speaks favorably of "some initial reaction from the Supreme Leader that indicates he understands the Iranian people have deep concerns about the election."
Where to begin? "Supreme Leader"? Note the abject solicitousness with which the American president confers this honorific on a clerical dictator who, even as his minions attack demonstrators, offers to examine some returns in some electoral districts -- a farcical fix that will do nothing to alter the fraudulence of the election.
Moreover, this incipient revolution is no longer about the election. Obama totally misses the point. The election allowed the political space and provided the spark for the eruption of anti-regime fervor that has been simmering for years and awaiting its moment. But people aren't dying in the street because they want a recount of hanging chads in suburban Isfahan. They want to bring down the tyrannical, misogynist, corrupt theocracy that has imposed itself with the very baton-wielding goons that today attack the demonstrators.
This started out about election fraud. But like all revolutions, it has far outgrown its origins. What's at stake now is the very legitimacy of this regime -- and the future of the entire Middle East.
This revolution will end either as a Tiananmen (a hot Tiananmen with massive and bloody repression or a cold Tiananmen with a finer mix of brutality and co-optation) or as a true revolution that brings down the Islamic Republic.
The latter is improbable but, for the first time in 30 years, not impossible. Imagine the repercussions. It would mark a decisive blow to Islamist radicalism, of which Iran today is not just standard-bearer and model, but financier and arms supplier. It would do to Islamism what the collapse of the Soviet Union did to communism -- leave it forever spent and discredited.
In the region, it would launch a second Arab spring. The first in 2005 -- the expulsion of Syria from Lebanon, first elections in Iraq and early liberalization in the Gulf states and Egypt -- was aborted by a fierce counterattack from the forces of repression and reaction, led and funded by Iran.
Now, with Hezbollah having lost elections in Lebanon and with Iraq establishing the institutions of a young democracy, the fall of the Islamist dictatorship in Iran would have an electric and contagious effect. The exception -- Iraq and Lebanon -- becomes the rule. Democracy becomes the wave. Syria becomes isolated; Hezbollah and Hamas, patronless. The entire trajectory of the region is reversed.
All hangs in the balance. The Khamenei regime is deciding whether to do a Tiananmen. And what side is the Obama administration taking? None. Except for the desire that this "vigorous debate" (press secretary Robert Gibbs' disgraceful euphemism) over election "irregularities" not stand in the way of U.S.-Iranian engagement on nuclear weapons.
Even from the narrow perspective of the nuclear issue, the administration's geopolitical calculus is absurd. There is zero chance that any such talks will denuclearize Iran. On Monday, Ahmadinejad declared yet again that the nuclear "file is shut, forever." The only hope for a resolution of the nuclear question is regime change, which (if the successor regime were as moderate as pre-Khomeini Iran) might either stop the program, or make it manageable and nonthreatening.
That's our fundamental interest. And our fundamental values demand that America stand with demonstrators opposing a regime that is the antithesis of all we believe.
And where is our president? Afraid of "meddling." Afraid to take sides between the head-breaking, women-shackling exporters of terror -- and the people in the street yearning to breathe free. This from a president who fancies himself the restorer of America's moral standing in the world.

Obama Erases Pro-Democracy Money for Iran
Friday, June 19, 2009 2:40 PM
By: Kenneth R. Timmerman Article Font Size
Even as Ayatollah Khamenei blasted the United States for fomenting unrest in a defiant Friday prayer address in Tehran, President Obama has kept silent, focusing instead on domestic policy.
Obama spent more time with TV personality Stephen Colbert, taping a segment for a comedy show, than he did addressing the turmoil in Iran this week. Newsmax has learned that the Obama administration also has zeroed out funding for pro-democracy programs inside Iran from the State Department budget for fiscal 2010, just as protests in Iran are ramping up......

Somewhere in Kenya, a Village is Missing its Idiot...
Yes folks, we have a President who thinks he can stimulate the economy by printing more "money," raising your taxes, and spending our grand children's inheritance—all to win the votes of illegal immigrants, dead people, and Democrats.
Furthermore, he can't prove he was born in America. According to Obama's Kenyan (paternal) grandmother, as well as his half-brother and half-sister, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Kenya, not in Hawaii as he claims. Before his inauguration, his grandmother bragged that her grandson was about to be President of the United States and is so proud because she was present during his birth in Kenya, in the delivery room. This, according to several news sites and Pennsylvania attorney Philip J. Berg who is a life long democrat himself. Berg is the former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
The Patriot Depot has released a brand new bumper sticker that has conservatives laughing and liberals hopping mad! Of course, the really scary part is that President Obama is NOT an idiot. Every decision he makes is calculated to take one more liberty away and moves us one step closer to full-blown communism. We're offering 2 of these new bumper stickers FOR ONLY $9.95 WITH FREE SHIPPING! • ORDER 2-PACK OF "IDIOT" BUMPER STICKERS NOW!
Of course, the mainstream, state-run media would never expose this massive cover-up about Obama's lack of Constitutional eligibility to be President. That's why we've launched a new Free Press web site called, The Patriot Update. The Patriot Update features headlines (whether obscure or prominent) submitted by readers like you, daily commentary by Patriot Update editors and guest writers, and our all new LeftyLoonz™ Political Cartoons by artist Adam Stiles. We thought you might enjoy the first LeftyLoonz™ political cartoon, "Insufficient Proof of Citizenship: Please Return to Sender," shown at right.
To celebrate the launch of this new web site and our first LeftyLoonz™ political cartoon, we are selling 2-packs of our Got a Birth Certificate? Bumper Stickers for just $1.99 with Free Shipping! ORDER NOW!
The Obama Administration campaigned on the promise of "Change." But what exactly do they mean by "Change?" They plan to take our guns away, give more power to the federal government, and raise our taxes. I'd rather keep my guns, freedom and money. You can keep the "change." Let your fellow Americans know where you stand by proudly displaying these 2 new bumper stickers!
We're sending a message to Washington by offering this best-selling bumper sticker to our fellow citizens FOR ONLY $.99

Still on, as the Great Satan extends an invite to mullah diplomats on the Fourth. AFP:
WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States said Monday its invitations were still standing for Iranian diplomats to attend July 4 celebrations at US embassies despite the crackdown on opposition supporters.
President Barack Obama’s administration said earlier this month it would invite Iran to US embassy barbecues for the national holiday for the first time since the two nations severed relations following the 1979 Islamic revolution.
“There’s no thought to rescinding the invitations to Iranian diplomats,” State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters.
“We have made a strategic decision to engage on a number of fronts with Iran,” Kelly said. “We tried many years of isolation, and we’re pursuing a different path now.”
But he said it was not clear if Iranian diplomats had accepted the invitations.
The State Department has said that the invitations are largely a symbolic gesture of goodwill and that the July 4 barbecues were not intended to take up substantive policy matters.
Bizarre. Absurd. Reprehensible. The notion of idly breaking bread with the representatives of men who are killing their own people, with no sign they intend to stop, in addition to having killed a lot of ours, on a holiday devoted to celebrating freedom.
A great opportunity for revolution-minded Iranian diplomats and their families to defect, I suppose. Only one problem. Could they trust the Obama admin not to throw them back?
OK, one other problem. Never mind that to eat dog is haram. Are those going to be kosher hot dogs? I mean, technically, that’s what a good Muslim wants. No chance any pork shoulder got in there. Except, you know …
And the traditional holiday American beverages are out. Coca Cola … too culturally imperialist. Beer … wicked haram.
Maybe the Obama admin sees it as some kind of propaganda coup. Big-hearted Americans break bread with despots on a day devoted to liberty. I could see it that way, if it weren’t for all the sucking up to despots he’s been doing … nope, not even then.
So what are the chances any Iranian diplomat is going to be allowed to attend an event that is all about throwing off the yoke of tyranny? Unless the mullahs decide it would be fun to make the Americans look bad with a lot of chummy international photo ops while people are being killed in the streets of Tehran?
I recommend the United States embassies and career diplomats that are being compelled to go along with this travesty mullah-proof their Fourth of July events by inviting a lot of girls in American flag bikinis, just to be on the safe side. It’s a surefire antidote to Obama’s latest dumb foreign policy plan!

Re: Barack Hussein Obama....
Rather than express support for the protesters Obama remains silent. His lame excuse is that he does not want to give the Iranian regime a reason to blame protests as American inspired.
The dork.
The message the students get is America is for Ahmadinejad. I wouldn't doubt 'Bama is.

"Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage." Disraeli
_______________________________________________________________
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:
* Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
* Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
* Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
* Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.
Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Re: Barack Hussein Obama....
Negotiating with Terrorists
The Obama administration ignores a longstanding — and life-saving — policy.
By Andrew C. McCarthy
As the Iranian government’s murderous repression of the Iranian people continues, critics right and left agitate over the deafening silence of an American president who, as a candidate, derided the Bush administration’s ambitious democracy promotion as too timid. They speculate as to why Barack Obama won’t speak out: Why won’t he condemn the mullahs? Is he daft enough to believe he can charm the regime into abandoning its nuclear ambitions? Does the self-described realist so prize stability that he thinks it’s worth abandoning the cause of freedom — and the best chance in 30 years of dislodging an implacable American enemy?
In truth, it’s worse than that. Even as the mullahs are terrorizing the Iranian people, the Obama administration is negotiating with an Iranian-backed terrorist organization and abandoning the American proscription against exchanging terrorist prisoners for hostages kidnapped by terrorists. Worse still, Obama has already released a terrorist responsible for the brutal murders of five American soldiers in exchange for the remains of two deceased British hostages.
Prepare to be infuriated.

North Korea threatens to 'wipe out' U.S.
Kim Jong-il close to naming son as successor: report
Last Updated: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 | 11:35 AM ET Comments663Recommend289CBC News
In this undated photo released earlier this week by Korean Central News Agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, right, inspects the command of the 7th Infantry Division of the Korean People's Army at an undisclosed location in North Korea. (Korean Central News Agency/Korea News Service/Associated Press)North Korea threatened on Wednesday to "wipe out" the United States in the event of a new war on the Korean Peninsula, as international observers watched for signs the regime would perform new missile tests in the coming days.
The warning came as a U.S. navy destroyer was tracking a North Korean ship suspected of attempting to transport illicit weapons to Burma. The pursuit is seen as the first test of sanctions passed by the UN Security Council as a response to Pyongyang's underground nuclear test in late May.
North Korea has said it would consider an interception to be a declaration of war. On Wednesday, it accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.
"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will … wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.
The Korean War ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.
In recent months, Pyongyang has sparked the fury of the international community by shunning six-party negotiations and resuming its nuclear program in defiance of the UN Security Council.
Meanwhile, reports emerged in South Korea that the North's leader, Kim Jong-il, appointed his son, Kim Jong-un, to head the country's spy agency to prepare him to inherit the leadership.
Seoul's Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported that Kim ordered senior officials at the State Security Department in March to "uphold" his youngest son as head of the agency, while doling out foreign-made luxury cars to the officials as gifts.
The 67-year-old Kim reportedly suffered a stroke last year and has appeared gaunt in recently released photos, prompting further speculation about his health and the stability of the regime.

Not according to lefties he didn't. After all, as mentioned in the article, Obama is on the same side as Chávez, Ortega and the Castro brothers, on the side of evil. So he's doing just exactly as he believes he should, and as the MSM believe he should.
