Complaint Dep't

Post by lily on Sun Mar 23, 2008 9:33 pm

Someone stole my son's bike from our underground SECURE parkade.

I'm NOT impressed.

yes... I bet your not impressed... No

I don't know what'sa matter with some people..???
So morally deficient they steal from kids...

but yeah.. as a bike rider myself.. I can totally attest to the need to securely lock up your bike..

Cause when I walk away from my two wheeled beauty.. I want to be totally sure she's there when I get back !

That's hilarious!

I didn't think we needed to lock the bikes when they're in the parking area, since it's secure. This tells me that if it isn't someone that lives here... it's a guest, and with Easter weekend, there were probably a few of those.

Here's "his" bike:

I'm really hoping my insurance covers it.

I called my insurance company - I was surprised they were open today - and the bike is covered under my policy. Trouble is - I have to buy a new one and they'll reimburse me, less the $500 deductible and I'll lose my claims-free discount which is a further $100 over 3 years. So... I'll be out of pocket $600. I only paid $500 for it last summer, although brand new they retail at just under $1000.

Hopefully it turns up and all it'll cost me is the repair bill.

ahh yes...
Norco.. a very good bike..

And yeah.. don't that suck about the insurance...
although I was surprised that yours actually covered bikes...
mine won't.
Of course.. they make it so that you won't claim..

But.. I'll be sending requests out to the Universe that you recover your son's bike..

My insurance covers up to $2000 on a bike... but you may have to show receipts to collect on that. I don't have a receipt - I got it from a guy on CraigsList - but she said "replacement value", so maybe so long as I can prove we had that bike...

I odn't like the part where I have to pay up front and then be reimbursed though. Maybe I'll check out the local shop and see if they can let me do a "pay half now with the balance owing when the insurance cheque comes in" sort of thing.

Never know.

The owner will be in on Friday, so I think I'll go in after work and have a chat with him. I'd rather buy local, and I'm a good enough shopper that I can pretend I'm only spending $500. After all, the other money came from last year's budget, right?

My neighbour said he'd guess it's a couple of kids who live in the apartments next to us. They don't have access to the underground parking, but their friend who lives in the condos does.....

I might have to mention that to the police... but I don't think it will do much good.

I think it's definately someone in your vicinity.

Maybe a few picture posters on some telephone polls might bring a tip or something. Gotta get the word out.. Make the little criminals start to sweat...

ya never know...
the bike might end up back in it's spot..

I'd drive the neighborhood as well. If a kid took it.. then chances are they're gonna leave it laying around.

yah.. my kid never locked her bike. She'd drop it and go off and play somewhere. I'm still surprised it never disappeared...
