Here's another one to swipe, Zoof.

Gore says the north polar ice cap will disappear in 5 years. That's 2013. Mark it down folks, and hold him to it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrPCUWWjh0c

Let's see...
The oceans have been cooling since 2003.
Sea ice is growing at the fastest pace on record.
A rare 50 year arctic blast is cooling the west coast.
There are growing fears of a coming freeze worse than the little ice age.
Alaskan Sea Glaciers are advancing for the first time in 250 years.
And, for the second straight year the Earth is, in fact, cooling... not warming.

Why does anyone pay the slightest attention to what that nutbar says?

Why does anyone pay the slightest attention to what that nutbar says?

Because there is money to be made for snakeoilers, and new taxes to collect for governments.

Well I for one couldn't believe Obama consulted Gore...

But.. I think we're stuck with politicians following the "man made climate change" model... regardless of whether it's fact or not. If nothing else... it'll clean the air around cities.

This is an interesting concept... and totally practical. We could all be growing our own organic food.

Help is on the way....

But ya gotta watch the terrorists don't get their hands on them...
Afterall.. they could just .. somehow.. pull it out of the ground and make off with it...

The lead-cooled fast reactors will be about 3 yards wide, 13 yards high and weigh less than 500 tons.

The Toshiba 4S — "super safe, small and simple" — will be about 72 feet tall and buried about 100 feet underground. The remote Alaska town of Galena is considering obtaining a 4S to provide its electricity.

These are going to be the solution to so many problems. Even a radiation hater like me thinks they're a truly awesome idea..

An interesting concept and I'm sure it will take place to some extent, but not the way they're promoting it.

Year-round crop production
; It would be difficult to make it cost effective. It would get too hot in summer, requiring mechanical (energy consuming) cooling, and a lot of heating in the northern areas in the winter.
No weather-related crop failures due to droughts, floods, pests

Hah! Bugs get in my house, and they get into greenhouses too! I tried growing mushrooms indoors once and they were eaten up by little flies.
All VF food is grown organically: no herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers
In your dreams, maybe. Where would the plants get nutrients without fertillizers? We've already mentioned the bugs. You might be able to get away without herbicides, but even in a controled environment like that you do get weeds, and manual labour is much more expensive than herbicides.
VF returns farmland to nature, restoring ecosystem functions and services
The best that VF would do is supplement traditional agricultural production. There's no way that it would replace it. You ain't gonna grow a lot of grain or grass or beef in one of those.
VF adds energy back to the grid via methane generation from composting non-edible parts of plants and animals
Somewhat, but VF itself also requires considerable amount of energy. I suspect more than it will produce.
VF dramatically reduces fossil fuel use (no tractors, plows, shipping.)
But lots of energy for construction, heating and cooling.
VF converts abandoned urban properties into food production centers

Why are these areas abandoned? Because they're in a very bad part of town. It would take a lot of security to keep the VF farm safe for the first few years. Later on it might become a center of urban renewal.
VF creates sustainable environments for urban centers
Nonsense. It's an artificial environment that requires continual maintenance.
We cannot go to the moon, Mars, or beyond without first learning to farm indoors on earth

I still haven't figured out why anyone would want to go there.
VF could reduce the incidence of armed conflict over natural resources, such as water and land for agriculture
Where do such conflicts take place? Only in unstable regimes, and any such successful enterprise would itself become a target.

More baseless fear mongering. It's still nowhere near as ice free as it was 700-1000 years ago. That's why it was named Greenland! Because it was green, and they farmed it. If the methane didn't cause a problem then, why would it now?

Scientists studying sea ice will announce that parts of the Arctic north of Alaska were 9 to 10 degrees warmer this past fall,
Except it's already been announced that most of the Arctic was cooler this fall, and sea ice is far more advanced than the last two years. And they've completely ignored the substancial cooling at the southern end of the planet. They're cherry picking the statistics that fit their agenda.

It isn't the warming that worries me, it's the propaganda and the actions they plan to take to counter a non-existant problem.

You have some good points about the vertical farming...
But... as the concept in it's infancy right now.. I believe all those issues can be worked out.

They've already got green wall systems started and flourishing. So vertical gardens can't be far behine.
And... if you incorporate human living and vertical farming in the same building..... the energy footprint goes way down.

I doubt it will work out in the West. It may in a small Mom and Pop and 12 working kids environment. Production depends on human labour so produce will be limited. Cannot feed a small town efficiently. It will work as the greenhouses do here in sunny Surrey. Grow lettuce and tomatoes. (and weed. BC Bud). Cant live on just that. Need some love and fresh air as well...

Global warming was blamed for everything from beasts gone wild to anorexic whales to the complete breakdown of human society this year -- showing that no matter what it is and where it happens, scientists, explorers, politicians and those who track the Loch Ness Monster are comfortable scapegoating the weather.

FOXNews.com takes a look back at 10 things that global warming allegedly caused — or will no doubt soon be responsible for — as reported in the news around the world in 2008.

1. Cannibalism
2. The Death of the Loch Ness Monster
3. Beer Gets More Expensive
4. Pythons Take Over America
5. An increase in kidney stones
6. Skinny Whales
7. A surge in fatal shark attacks
8. Black Hawk Down blamed on global warming
9. Frozen Penguin Babies
10. Killer Stingray Invasion
