Hi everyone
Hi guys,
It's Rosie, new member alias Popsicle, Rosario...and happy to be here.
First of all, thank you Calmage for getting this forum on the go. It looks like RR is in its' death throes so much appreciated that you did this for us.
I think I should warn you from the beginning that I am a total idiot about anything mechanical or electronic. F'r instance, this week I bought a new phone and new keyboard.
Now neither of these should be difficult to get working right? Nope, wrong in my case. As I well know my inadequacies I didn't hurry to put them to use as I would only end up frustrated and pissed off at myself.
But a couple of days ago I started with the phone, actually two phones for two different rooms. First I read the instructions from stem to gudgeon, then began getting them together. The first one worked just fine, but the second one simply wouldn't let me plug the whatsis into the thingy, so I marched it back to London Drugs to get it right, which the guy did in about half a second, along with a pitying look as if to say you poor dumb slob...so back home and it had fallen apart again, and again I struggled and finally managed to get it ready for the next step...now this is a very complicated, push button type phone with explicit instructions for every step, but I did get the first one working properly. What I forgot was that one phone is the main phone and the other is a auxiliary phone which feeds off the first. Of course I got it wrong so that the second phone, which should have been the main one, wasn't, which messed up both phones. So back to square one and finally they are both working fine after many hours of cursing, fuming, and wondering whatever happened to those simple phones one just plugs in and goes?
Today I tackled the new keyboard. Now here again all it takes is to unplug the old one in one place, colour coded at that, and replace it with the same colour on the new one. Easy eh? I shut the computer down and unplugged it, then made the switch but the computer wouldn't go on. It was dead as a doornail. I went for a walk to cool off, then returned to try the old keyboard again, and again the computer wouldn't turn on. I checked all the plugs, cords, the whole spaghetti mess of wires beside my desk, still wouldn't work. Finally I realized that I had forgotten to switch on the main power system. See, told you I was hopeless. Of course it worked, so I replaced the old with the new and now here I am typing on my new keyboard which so far doesn't have cracker crumbs between the keys making it jamb up or skitter like a cat on a catnip high.
That's it for me, any more new stuff and I will get someone to do it for me. I wasn't cut out to do anything as complicated as today's electronics.

ludite ..... ludite?
Whers me dictionary?
Oh Hi Rosie.
Well I got a mystery of sorts. I brought my new computer home today.
I turn it on and up jumps my desktop from my old computer.?????????
How did that get there I mutter in my gin. Must be the old drive??? No cant be.
I have narrowed it down to something in the gin coupled with my weakened state of mind exacerbated by the thought that Hillary may be Prez..
Looks like the guy who built the computer had a copy of my present machine. How else could it get there? I will have to check tomorrow.

Re: Welcome Guests to Clarity..
Cal me dear I was as dumbfounded as if a 20 year old Brigitte Bardot popped out of the monitor wearing 1 pastie.
It was so surprising and unexpected.
Turns out he had a backup of my operating system so preloaded it on the new one.
No golf games on it as newly re-formatted C: /u at the Dos prompt.

Hey Zoofer,
You speaking Greek? It's all Dutch to me...and Calmage, you are light years ahead of me in electronics, setting up this fine Board and all. I wouldn't know where to start.

Hi Calm, I have joined the Board, giving my name Rosie and a password, and answered two different letter codes, but I have to post as Guest otherwise when I use "Rosie" I get the message that the name is already in use. Can fix?
Re: Welcome Guests to Clarity..
It will be done I am sure Rosie.
Now I too have a problem. I lost a picture of Hillary.
I guess I was laughing so hard I forgot to save it!

Re: Welcome Guests to Clarity..
Rosie...
did you get an e-mail at the e-mail address you supplied..?
You have to click on that top link in the letter in order to complete registration.
Your name Rosie isn't showing up on the memberlist as having registered... so your final step just needs to be completed.
Look for that e-mail and click the link and you should be Rosie once again...

Re: Welcome Guests to Clarity..
Maybe check in your trash folder in whatever e-mail you use. It might have been treated as spam by your computer and trashed and you didn't know it. Or it was sent into e-mail limbo...
You might want to try another board name Rosie.. and watch what your e-mail filters are picking up and not showing you.
